How To Adopt

At MEOW Foundation, our goal is to find a loving, permanent home for every cat that we rescue. The cats and kittens that are available for adoption have been provided with all necessary medical care, including spay or neuter surgery, some vaccinations, and permanent identification.

Meet Our Adoptable Cats

Adoption Process

1. Complete an Adoption Application: Once there is a cat you are interested in adopting, your first step will be to complete our online Adoption Application. The application can also be found on each cat’s profile in the Cat-a-logue.

2. Reviewing Your Application: Once we receive your application, an Adoption Specialist will contact you for a phone interview. This interview takes approximately 30 minutes and will help ensure that your household is a good match for one of our cats. It is also a good opportunity to ask the Adoption Specialist any questions and learn more about our cats and their needs.

3. Meeting Your Cat: Provided that you are approved for adoption, our Adoption Specialist will arrange a time for you to come and meet the cat or cats that may be a good fit. If the cat you are interested in is at a foster home, you will communicate with the foster directly to arrange a viewing. Our cats are available for adoption on a first-come, first-served basis, meaning that a cat will be adopted out to the first well-suited adopter who meets them and decides to adopt them.

4. Adoption Finalization: Once you and the Adoption Specialist have agreed on a cat, you will be required to complete any necessary paperwork and pay the adoption fee. The Adoption Specialist will arrange a time for you to pick up your new cat. For cats at our Adoption Centre, you can most often expect to bring your new feline friend home the day that you meet them. Once you’ve brought your cat home, your MEOW Matchmaker 30-Day Trial starts. Our team will be in touch near the end of your trial to make sure everything is going well. Once the trial period is complete, we will register your cat’s microchip in your name.

Adoption Fees

Adoption fees help cover the cost of care and medical expenses incurred prior to a cat’s adoption.

  • Kitten (3-6 months old): $225
  • Adult (6 months – 7 years old): $175
  • Senior, Shy & Select Cats: Name Your Fee*
  • Multi-Cat Discount: $25**

*There is a $50 minimum to cover administrative costs, and we appreciate any greater contribution to help cover the cost of care for homeless cats and kittens. Name Your Fee cats are noted as such in the Cat-a-Logue.

**Applies to returning MEOW Foundation adopters and people who are adopting more than one cat at the same time.

MEOW Matchmaker 30-Day Trial

Although our goal is always to place every cat in a permanent home, we do offer a Matchmaker 30-Day Trial to ensure the right fit for you and your new furry friend. If problems arise during your trial, our adoption team will work with you to try and resolve them. However, if it is ultimately not a suitable match, MEOW will take the cat back and refund your adoption fee (minus a $50 administration fee).

Choosing a Cat

Welcoming a new cat into your home is a big decision, and our team will work with you to ensure the right fit for your family. Our Cat-a-Logue shows all available cats and includes key information about each cat’s personality and needs. When choosing a cat, it is essential to look beyond a cat’s appearance. A cat’s personality, age, and ability to fit into your lifestyle are the most important considerations to make when selecting a companion who you will share many years with.

Adopt at Regal Cat Café

Every 2-3 weeks, MEOW sends a group of cats to live in the Kitty Kingdom, where prospective adopters can go to meet them. We typically receive a large volume of applications for cats at Regal Cat Café, and we encourage prospective adopters to submit an adoption application prior to visiting the cats. By being pre-approved for adoption, you can save time during the application process and help ensure that you are first in line to adopt the cat you are interested in.

While many of the processes are the same when adopting a cat at Regal Cat Café, there are a few key differences:

  • Unlike with our other adoptable cats, you do have the opportunity to meet the cat before applying to adopt them. However, if you are specifically interested in adopting, we strongly recommend completing an Adoption Application before visiting Regal Cat Café.
  • Once you have been approved to adopt your chosen cat, you will be required to pick them up from the café at a specific date and time. An Adoption Specialist will give you details after finalizing your application.
