About MEOW Foundation

What makes us different

Founded in 2000 by 11 dedicated volunteers in Calgary, MEOW Foundation arose from a shared concern for stray and abandoned cats facing euthanasia. Their vision? A shelter with a no-kill policy, setting the standard for humane programs and cat behaviour expertise. Today, MEOW Foundation stands as a pillar in Calgary’s animal welfare community, with several founding members still contributing their time to our mission to Make Each One Wanted.

How we help

Thousands of cats and kittens are euthanized in Canadian animal shelters annually, with many more struggling to survive on the streets. According to statistics from the CFHS Cats in Canada Report 2012, out of the estimated 1.1 million cats brought to Canadian shelters in 2011, nearly half were euthanized due to reasons such as limited space, resources, or illness.

MEOW Foundation’s unique multi-faceted approach aims to offer an effective, humane and sustainable solution to the problem. Alongside our Rescue and Adoption Program, we offer initiatives like the Spay Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP), Trap Neuter Return (TNR) Program, and Cat Food Assistance Program, all aimed at promoting responsible pet ownership and tackling pet overpopulation.

Our Funding

We help approximately 3,000 cats and kittens annually through public donations, social enterprise, grants and fundraising.

MEOW Foundation is primarily funded through public donations, social enterprise, grants, and fundraising activities. These sources of funding enable us to provide vital support and care for the cats and kittens in our community. We deeply appreciate the generosity of our donors and supporters, whose contributions allow us to fulfill our mission of improving the lives of homeless and abandoned cats in Calgary and the surrounding area.

Unlike some non-profit organizations, MEOW Foundation does not receive government support. Instead, we rely on the generosity of donors like you to fund our programs and make a real difference in the lives of cats and kittens in our community.
