Rubeus

Rubeus is so shy, your heart will melt when you meet him. His way of dealing with this new scary experience, is to hide his head like a little ostrich. If he can't see you and you can't see him, then his world feels much safer. At 11 years old, you can imagine that no matter how well intentioned MEOW people are, it does not feel good to Rubeus right now.

He was diagnosed with a condition called hyperthyroid. He is on a daily medication that is keeping his lab results in the normal range. He also had a Grade 4 heart murmur and has hypertrophic cardio myopathy (heart disease). He is not currently on any medications for this. He is likely to develop kidney disease in the future and may need to be on a special diet.

You can stroke him gently on his head with a petting stick and sometimes with your hand. He does not appreciate too many pets yet and will sometimes give a gentle little hiss or swat. Due to his shyness, he would do best in an adult only home with cat experience. Time will be our gift to Rubeus with the hope he will begin to feel more comfortable in the coming weeks and months.
