Rescue and Intake Procedures

Since MEOW's inception in July, 2000, we have rescued and adopted
close to 4,500 cats and kittens!

MEOW Foundation is a No-Kill Humane Society. Due to our no-kill
status MEOW receives thousands of calls annually from concerned
citizens in Calgary and surrounding areas asking for rescue assistance
for a stray/abandoned cat or mom and kittens surviving outdoors.
Sadly, we cannot accommodate all of these calls for help due to our
limited shelter and foster home space. We try our best to rescue,
adopt and TNR as many cats and kittens as we can each year. In 2009, MEOW assisted 869 cats through our programs.

Intake or admission for stray and abandoned cats is scheduled
for the second Tuesday of every month. The next intake date: Tuesday,
October 12, 2010. *Below - please note the exceptions.

At 9 a.m., August 10, 2010, call 403.796.6033. Calls will be answered
9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday, until our admission spots are filled.
On each intake date, MEOW will admit 10 to 15 cats.

*Pregnant or mother cats with very young kittens - *As of July  8, MEOW foster homes are full and we cannot accept any more mothers and kittens until further notice.

- We work on a 'First Come - First Served' basis. Preference will be given
to cats in immediate distress and/or are injured.
- If you have an emergency situation such as a badly injured or sick cat,
please e-mail info@meowfoundation.com. You do not need to wait until
the next listed Intake day. Your call will be returned and each emergency
assessed on a case by case basis.

Regular Rescue/Intake Procedures

- If you have found a cat, and prior to calling MEOW for assistance,
please follow the steps outlined on what to do if you have found a cat.
- If you are unable to re-unite your found cat with its owner, please note
the next Intake date and call for assisstance at the date and time listed above.
- MEOW's Intake representative will accept calls until all of the available spaces
at the shelter and foster homes have been filled. The number of spaces will
vary with every Intake day, depending on the time of year and the number
of adoptions within that time period.
- If your stray or abandoned cat is not accepted, please check this
page regularly to find out the next available Intake day and time or try to find
the cat a new home by asking friends, family, neighbours and colleagues.
